Candidacy is a collection of my best works from other college courses that relate to film other than through a camera lens. These works don't start out great but I do believe they finish strong. I never was a traditional artist, drawing, painting, sculpting, etc. nor have I ever aspired to be. However, these courses gave me the fundamentals of compositing and working with digital mediums along with traditional mediums. Even though filmmaking and photography are expected digital mediums, I still believe it is important to learn the traditional methods first because it allows you to think more critically and really appreciate the art of composition and framing.

For me, drawing is particularly challenging. I know, how hard can drawing be? Well if you have had virtually no experience in drawing real-life scenarios, never really drew pictures as a kid, etc. it can be pretty difficult. Even though I didn't particularly enjoy the course, I did like composing my own frames in a sense where they can be turned into films! It gave me my first practice at actually composing frames with thought.
Drawing two was much more enjoyable for me, other than doing model sessions, because the course gave me more freedom in what I wanted to draw. I was able to build and compose my own stills and environments and decide how I wanted to draw them. Due to that, I actually started to enjoy drawing a little more and did it more often during my free time. Hence where all these car drawings came from.
This course was so way more fun than I ever expected it to be. Initially I was skeptical but once I took my time and really focused with compositing and craftsmanship, I ended up with some really beautiful results. This three designs were my strongest in the course and by far the cleanest in my opinion. The course also gave me a real sense of negative space and how to utilize it rather than discard it.
Digital Foundations was a course where I didn't really understand the overall objective. Once I began designing from paper to screen, I then realized that it was about getting acquainted with digitally composing and designing using technical elements. My favorite is the movie poster; obviously, because I'm a film guy. From a design perspective, I believe it does its job of serving as a movie poster. There's an objective in it and it displays it well. But overall the course was interesting and exercised my mind on digital composition.
